My first day of my maternity leave

Yesterday was the first official day of my maternity leave. It was strange to start it straight after the bank holiday because usually after a long weekend, you get that ‘Sunday night feeling’ of having to get everything ready for work, but also the knowledge that it’s only a four day week ahead. But this time, for me, I felt neither of those things. It was just an extra evening not setting my alarm.

As much as I hate getting up in the morning, I really do love going to work, so I didn’t really know what to do with myself today. After a ridiculously long lie-in, and a warm ‘snow fairy’ bubble bath, I did the one thing I can count on to make me happy – I went shopping!

With amazing sales on at the moment, coupled with the cutest baby clothes in the shop, it’s getting increasingly annoying not knowing whether there is a little boy or a little girl growing inside me. Whilst everyone has told me it’s a boy, I can still only really buy the neutral baby clothes but there’s hardly any of them. I did manage to pick up a couple of things from Gap at 40% discount so I’m quite pleased with myself. I also managed to spend a small fortune on clothes for myself, things for the house, and stocking up on general items so that the first few days after the birth can be spent relaxing in a clean, tidy, stocked up house instead of worrying that there is no toothpaste.

Even though today was my first official day of maternity leave, I have spent the bank holiday weekend preparing myself for labour. And by preparing, I mean treating myself to a manicure and pedicure, and giving my hair extensions a deep clean, blow-dry, and straighten – all highly important.
